RAM is getting cheap and upgrading is getting more tempting all the time. NewEgg has some pretty cool specials too.
First off, this is a 2GB upgrade (1 X 2GB RAMchip) for notebooks.
There's a $20 Rebate and a promo code: EMC1025SYME05 ($10 off)
That knocks it down to $59 for a single 2GB Chip!
You need a second matched chip for dual channel performance. I don't know how well mixing and matching brands will work for you, but if you're brave, here's another 2GB Notebook RAM deal.
(They are basically the same stuff and should work together.)
Add in promo code: EMC1025SYME04
(You probably need to be a NewEgg newsletter subscriber for the promo codes to work.)
Your second 2GB chip is now $67.99.
4GB in a notebook (or desktop) is pretty spectacular (even if 32bit OSes only address ~3GB of it).
Plus...
Stingy Tech Tip:
On Windows, to feel the full effect of the extra RAM (in XP and maybe other MS OSes) do the following:
Start -> Run -> Type in " msconfig" (no quotes) -> System.INI Tab -> New ->
Type in "ConservativeFileSwapUsage=1" (no quotes).
The benefits are better batttery life, hopefully better stability,
increased performance and less wear and tear on your hard drive.
